AMERICAN car giant General Motors has made a surprise announcement that from 2016 its Chevrolet brand will be no more in Europe. The company has stated that it wishes to concentrate on long established brands Opel and Vauxhall instead. All is not lost, as GM will keep what it says is its ‘iconic’ models such as the Corvette, while the firm intends to focus attention on its traditional American luxury brand Cadillac ahead of a greater European push in the next few years.
Renault Wind Gordini arrives in the UK
For those who don’t know, the Renault Wind isn’t a breeze crossing the Channel from central France but is actually a convertible version of the Renault Twingo. And now it’s got a new top-end version – the Renault Wind Gordini. As regular readers will know, Renault has revived the Gordini moniker to attach to tarted and titivated Renaults to extract a bigger price from punters looking for something funky and retro.

Renault has pulled the UK launch of its budget brand, Dacia. It had planned to launch the cheap 'n' cheerful badge in the UK in February 2009, but that's now gone back a year, the company announced today. CAR was due to drive the Sandero – the UK launch model – in July 2008, but PRs today took the unusual step of ringing the media to cancel the event.
